Ethnography, Superdiversity and Linguistic Landscapes: Chronicles of Complexity
作者: Jan Blommaert
售价:299.5元RMB
简评:Jan Blommaert offers a sweeping tour of the complex geographies of contemporary sociolinguistics. Effortlessly combining erudition with accessibility, he maps a new terrain for linguistic landscapes through the deeper contours of ethnography; all of which is grounded in the intimate, culturally diverse histories of his own backyard. This, argues Blommaert, is how sociolinguists should be looking to untether themselves from the stability and predictability of synchronic analysis and seeking instead to live (and research) in the moment.
This is not just another landmark book in Jan Blommaert's rich oeuvre. It's a conversation he's having with all of us on today's sociolinguistic landscapes. He argues they are chaotic and complex. His book is anything but. Written in cogent and clear style, provocative at times, boring never. A Berchem delight.
Both lucid and profound, integrating a compelling theoretical imagination with very practical methodology, this book is yet another remarkable advance in Blommaert's powerful remapping of sociolinguistics.
The text is clear, accessible and interspersed with practical examples of 'experienced' semioticised space. Blommaert never disappoints in his compassionate, original and thoroughly enjoyable narrative(...) For the LL postgraduate student, the text is useful because it discusses the main developments of LLS, identifies its shortcomings clearly and succinctly, and presents fresh data within a newly conceived framework.

民族志研究中语言的学习和使用
书名:Learning and Using Languages in Ethnographic Research
Edited by: Robert Gibb, Annabel Tremlett, Julien Danero Iglesias
售价:349元RMB
简评:Learning and Using Languages in Ethnographic Research breaks the silence that still surrounds learning a language for ethnographic research and in the process demystifies some of the multilingual aspects of contemporary ethnographic work. It does this by offering a set of engaging and accessible accounts of language learning and use written by ethnographers who are at different stages of their academic career. A key theme is how researchers' experiences of learning and using other languages in fieldwork contexts relate to wider structures of power, hierarchy and inequality. The volume aims to promote a wider debate among researchers about how they themselves learn and use different languages in their work, and to help future fieldworkers make more informed choices when carrying out ethnographic research using other languages.

简介:This book sets out duoethnography as a method of research, reflective practice and as a pedagogical approach in English Language Teaching (ELT). The book provides an introduction to the history of duoethnography and lays out its theoretical foundations. The chapters then address duoethnography as a research method which can be used to explore critical and personal issues among ELT teachers, discuss how duoethnography as a reflective practice can aid teachers in understanding themselves, their colleagues or their context, and demonstrate how duoethnography can be used as a pedagogical tool in ELT classrooms. The chapters are a range of duoethnographies from established and emerging researchers and teachers, which explore the interplay between cultural discourses and life histories with a focus on ELT in Japan.

书名:Making Signs, Translanguaging Ethnographies: Exploring Urban, Rural and Educational Spaces
主编: Ari Sherris, Elisabetta Adami
售价:349元
简介:This book is the beginning of a conversation across Social Semiotics, Translanguaging, Complexity Theory and Radical Sociolinguistics. In its explorations of meaning, multimodality, communication and emerging language practices, the book includes theoretical and empirical chapters that move toward an understanding of communication in its dynamic complexity, and its social semiotic and situated character. It relocates current debates in linguistics and in multimodality, as well as conceptions of centers/margins, by re-conceptualizing communicative practice through investigation of indigenous/oral communities, street art performances, migration contexts, recycling artefacts and signage repurposing. The book takes an innovative approach to both the form and content of its scholarly writing, and will be of interest to all those involved in interdisciplinary thinking, researching and writing.

书名:Dialogues with Ethnography: Notes on Classics, and How I Read Them
作者:Jan Blommaert
售价:302元RMB
简介:This book persuasively argues the case that ethnography must be viewed as a full theoretical system, rather than just as a research method. Blommaert traces the influence of his reading of classic works about ethnography on his thinking, and discusses a range of authors who have influenced the development of a theoretical system of ethnography, or whose work might be productively used to develop it further. Authors examined include Hymes, Scollon, Kress, Bourdieu, Bakhtin and Lefebvre. This book will be required reading for students and scholars involved in ethnographic research, or those interested in the theory of ethnography.

简介:Ethnographic fieldwork is something which is often presented as mysterious and inexplicable. How do we know certain things after having done fieldwork? Are we sure we know? And what exactly do we know? This book describes ethnographic fieldwork as the gradual accumulation of knowledge about something you don't know much about. We start from ignorance and gradually move towards knowledge, on the basis of practices for which we have theoretical and methodological motivations. Jan Blommaert and Dong Jie draw on their own experiences as fieldworkers in explaining the complexities of ethnographic fieldwork as a knowledge trajectory. They do so in an easily accessible way that makes these complexities easier to understand and to handle before, during and after fieldwork. The 2nd edition of this bestselling book updates the 1st edition and includes a new postscript on ethnography in an online world.
